PA1 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides

A one day training course covering the theory of pesticide applications. You require this qualification to be able to proceed to pesticide application training and assessment.

The course covers:

  • Legislation
  • Product labels
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Personal Safety and dealing with contamination
  • Pesticide storage
  • Safe pesticide transportation
  • Disposal of pesticides and containers
  • Pesticide records
  • Environmental awareness and safety
  • Water protection

Both City & Guilds or Lantra Awards assessment are available to undertake.

Course duration: One day

PA2 Safe Application of Pesticides using a Horizontal Boom Sprayer

A one day practical training course on setting up, calibrating and the safe use of a boom sprayer. Pre requisite PA1 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides.

The course covers:

  • Legislation
  • Applying pesticides safely using horizontal boom sprayers
  • Environmental risks
  • How to minimise risks
  • Product labels
  • Identifying applicator components and controls
  • Pre-use and operational checks
  • Sprayer calibration
  • Recording data
  • Calculating pesticide quantities
  • Safe application
  • Protecting human health and the environment
  • Safe surplus pesticide disposal and waste materials
  • Cleaning and decontaminating equipment
  • Safely storing the sprayer

PA4 Safe Application of Pelleted and/or Granule Pesticides using mounted or trailed Pesticide Applicators

A one day practical training course on setting up, calibrating and safe use of a pellet and/or granule applicator. Pre requisite PA1 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides.

The course covers:

  • Legal requirements
  • Applying pesticides safely following industry best practice
  • Identifying environmental risk and how to minimise it
  • Product labels
  • Applicator controls and components
  • Pre-use checks and calibration
  • Calculating granules needed per area
  • Safe application procedures
  • Avoiding human and environmental risk

  • Safe storage and disposal of granules and waste material
  • Cleaning and decontaminating equipment

PA6A Safe Application of Pesticides using Pedestrian Handheld Equipment

A one day practical training course on setting up, calibrating and the safe use of a knapsack sprayer. Pre requisite PA1 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides.

A half day practical training course on setting up, calibrating and the safe use of a knapsack sprayer in or near water courses. Pre requisites PA1 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides, PA6A Safe Application of Pesticides using Pedestrian Handheld Equipment.

The course covers:

  • Identifying aquatic risks
  • Minimising environmental risks
  • Product labels

  • Identifying nozzles and pressure
  • Calibrating the sprayer/applicator
  • Calculating treatment area

PA6PP Safe Installation of Pesticide Plugs in Tree Stumps

A half day practical training course on the safe installation of pesticide plugs into tree stumps. Pre requisite PA1 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides.
