A five day training course to learn the skills to maintain and operate a chainsaw for cross cutting and the felling and processing of small trees, including the felling of hung up trees. It will provide the knowledge and skills required for learners to be assessed in the qualifications.

  • Chainsaw reassembly and pre-start checks
  • Correct methods of waste disposal
  • Safe use of the chainsaw
  • Inspecting timber
  • Legal and environmental factors for felling trees
  • Felling safeguards
  • Disease and decay in trees
  • Felling techniques for different trees
  • Preparing site, tree and escape route
  • Take down methods
  • Removing branches
  • Snedding/de-limbing
  • Ergonomic working methods
  • Safely moving and stacking timber

Both City & Guilds or Lantra Awards assessment are available to undertake.
